PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
